Advergames: Chancen und Herausforderungen für Spieler, Entwickler und Werbende

In diesem Paper untersuchen wir die besonderen Potenziale und Herausforderungen von Advergames – digitalen Spielen mit primärer Werbefunktion. Im Fokus stehen die Auswirkungen auf Spieler:innen, die Anforderungen an Entwickler:innen sowie die strategische Nutzung durch Werbetreibende. Neben der Analyse gestalterischer, wirtschaftlicher und ethischer Aspekte diskutieren wir, wie Advergames als Format zwischen Unterhaltung, Markeninszenierung und gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung positioniert sind.
AI in Marketing Education: Capabilities required of Marketers today

This research explores the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on marketing education. The study emphasizes the necessity for marketing students to acquire skills that enable them to effectively utilize AI throughout the marketing management process. By synthesizing insights from theoretical models and empirical research, the paper identifies key competencies required for future marketers, including analytical, technological, and strategic efficiency capabilities. The authors argue that integrating AI into marketing education is essential for preparing students to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of digital marketing. The paper concludes with recommendations for educators on how to incorporate AI tools and concepts into their curricula to enhance students' readiness for AI-driven marketing roles.
Auswirkungen gesellschaftlicher Krisen auf die digitale und soziale Teilhabe von Adressat:innen im Sozialraum: Ergebnisse einer Befragung von Fachkräften der Gemeinwesenarbeit in Hessen

Social crises such as the corona crisis and the war in Ukraine do not leave social work untouched. On the one hand, these crises transform society and the social work; on the other hand, they reinforce social and economic inequalities. Since the Covid 19 pandemic, the issue of digitalisation has become more im-portant. Since the first lockdown in 2020, a shift into the digital space can be observed. So, processes of digitalisation poses new questions and challenges for social work - both for the professionals and the cli-ents. In our paper, we will examine and discuss the reflections of social workers on digitalisation in social work practice. For this purpose, we were conducting a survey with professionals of social work on digitalisation in the neighbourhood, e.g. the effects of the pandemic and the Ukraine crisis on social processes in the neighbourhood. Our research questions are: What impact does the pandemic have on the use of digital media in the neighbourhood? How do community work professionals assess the current digital and social changes for their work and their clients? Which competences in the use of digital tools have professionals and inhabitants developed? The pandemic has led to an increased need for digital media and methods in community work. Most professionals have expanded their digital skills during the pandemic in order to overcome the challenges of virtual communication and collaboration. Besides, the Ukraine crisis has in-creased social inequalities. Migrants, refugees and single parents in particular were hit harder by the con-sequences of the crisis; e.g. financial worries and discrimination also became more prevalent. In this paper the findings about the knowledge and reflections of the professionals regarding the chal-lenges and opportunities of digitalisation and migration in social work practice will be presented.

Game Engines gibt es bereits seit den 1980er Jahren. Eine der ersten Game Engines wurde vom Team um Shigeru Miyamoto in ihrem Motorrad-Rennen "Excitebike" (NES, 1984) eingesetzt. Später nutzen sie die Engine, um Mario in "Super Mario Bros" (NES, 1985) auf die Sprünge zu helfen. Auf dem Markt gibt es viele Game Engines, jede mit ihren Vor- und Nachteilen. Und jedes aktuelle Spiel benötigt eine Art Game Engine, aber kann das auch der Browser sein?
Der Diversity Management Radar für Deutschland: Von Haltung zu Handlung

This discussion paper presents the “Diversity Management Radar” (DMR), a novel maturity model developed to assess and guide the implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in German organizations. While many companies in Germany endorse diversity through initiatives, practical approaches to DEI often lack clarity, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Existing international maturity models are rarely tailored to the legal, cultural, and organizational context of German firms. This research project—funded by IU Internationale Hochschule and conducted in collaboration with Charta der Vielfalt e.V.—adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining a review of existing DEI maturity models with 24 expert interviews from executives and HR/Diversity professionals across SMEs, medium-sized firms, and large corporations. The resulting model comprises three DEI maturity levels (Foundation, Management, Excellence), three company sizes, and nine action categories along the employee lifecycle. The DMR provides a practical self-assessment framework, enabling companies to map their current DEI practices, define strategic goals, and prioritize resource allocation. By integrating insights from organizational practice, the model emphasizes realistic development paths over prescriptive checklists. The model is freely accessible and designed to foster evidence-based, resource-sensitive DEI management in the German context. It contributes to both scholarly discussion and practical implementation, supporting organizations in moving from intention to action in their DEI strategies.
Der Einfluss von Führungskräften auf das Empfinden psychologischer Sicherheit von Teams in deutschen Industrieunternehmen

The world of work is evolving due to globalization, digitalization and the shift to a knowledge society. These changes present new challenges for companies and employees, emphasizing the need for a work environment that cultivates psychological safety. Which is necessary for supporting continuous learning, innovation and growth, as it enables employees to share knowledge, express concerns and ask questions without fear of negative consequences. Studies indicate that most German employees do not view their workplaces as psychologically safe. Furthermore, Germany is losing its attractiveness and competitiveness as an industrial location. This study explores how psychological safety is perceived in teams at German industrial companies and examines the impact of managers on this perception. Qualitative interviews with ten experts reveal that psychological safety within teams tends to decrease in six teams, when the manager is perceived as part of the team. This is problematic because leaders are one of the main influencing factors. Topics such as appreciation and personal development were frequently mentioned by respondents as areas with potential for improvement. Additionally, it became clear that, out of fear, employees tend to remain silent rather than openly address problems and difficult issues. The findings help to narrow the research gap in psychological safety. Future research could explore individual personality differences and compare psychological safety perceptions across different generations of employees. It is also recommended to develop more German or European research approaches on psychological safety.
Evaluation des Projektes „Stadtteilmütter in Köln-Mülheim“

Dieser Bericht stellt die Evaluationsergebnisse des sozialräumlich orientierten Projekts „Stadtteilmüt-ter“ vor. Die Evaluation wurde im Jahr 2024 durchgeführt und die Ergebnisse basieren auf 11 Einzelin-terviews mit Klienten und einer Gruppendiskussion mit den Stadtteilmüttern. Es werden Perspektiven zur Förderung der gleichberechtigten Teilhabe von Familien mit Migrationsge-schichte aufgezeigt. Durch den Migrationshintergrund der Stadtteilmütter haben diese eine Vorbild-funktion für die Familien, die erleben, dass durch den Erwerb deutscher Sprachkenntnisse und die Ent-wicklung von Eigeninitiative ein selbstbestimmtes Leben möglich ist. „Stadtteilmütter“ schließen eine relevante Lücke im Regelsystem der Sozialpolitik. In Stadtteilen mit erhöhten Problem- und Bedarfsla-gen sind sie eine wichtige Ergänzung, um strukturelle Defizite wie Zugangsbarrieren, Personalmangel und fehlende Zielgruppenorientierung zu kompensieren.
Evaluation dualer Masterstudiengänge in Sozialer Arbeit: Empirische Befunde zu Motivation, Lernverhalten und Studienerfolg

Die Studie ‚Erfolgreich MAPS studieren‘ (eMAPSs) wurde zwischen 2020 und 2023 an fünf Hochschulstandorten mit berufsbegleitenden Masterstudiengängen in Sozialer Arbeit durchgeführt. Ziel war die theoretisch fundierte Evaluation der Rahmenbedingungen an der Hochschule, die Beschreibung von Motivation und Lernverhalten im Studienverlauf sowie die Vorhersage wissenschafts- und berufsbezogenen Studienerfolgs. Aufgrund der pandemiebedingten Hochschulschließungen 2020 und 2021 konnten nicht alle Vorhaben umgesetzt werden. Im vorliegenden Bericht werden die wichtigsten deskriptiven Befunde aus drei Querschnittserhebungen und die Signifikanztests der Veränderungen bei pandemiebedingtem Distanzlernen zusammengefasst. Die Diskussion der Ergebnisse erfolgt vor dem Hintergrund der theoriebasierten Erwartungen, des Studienformats und eines Masterniveaus in Sozialer Arbeit. The study 'Erfolgreich MAPS studieren' (eMAPSs) was conducted between 2020 and 2023 at five universities with part-time Master's degree programs in social work. The aim was to conduct a theoretically based evaluation of the framework conditions at the university, to describe motivation and learning behavior during the course of study and to predict academic and career-related study success. Due to the pandemic-related university closures in 2020 and 2021, not all projects could be implemented. This report summarizes the most important descriptive results from three cross-sectional surveys and the significance tests of the changes in distance learning due to the pandemic. FinTech, General Purpose Technology und Wohlfahrt

FinTech is said to have promising effects. The consideration that arises is whether this new form is a special kind of technology that affects an entire economy and has the potential to change societies through its impact on existing economic and social structures. Thus, the question arises whether FinTech can be characterized as general-purpose technology (GPT)? This is followed by the second question: What is the impact of FinTech at the aggregate level and as a potential GPT on aggregate economic welfare? Using two different GPT definitions and characteristics, we show how FinTech can be characterized as a GPT. In the second part, an analytical framework is used to show that FinTech increases welfare as a positive supply shock.
GAMEPATHY #1: Fachtagung für Gamedesign & Digitalspielforschung 2023

Am 26. und 27. Oktober 2023 fand die Gamepathy #1 statt, die einerseits aus einer Remote-Spielefachtagung und andererseits aus einem Game Jam vor Ort am IU-Standort Regensburg bestand. Während die Organisation und Durchführung der Tagung in erster Linie bei den Professor:innen des B.A.-IU-Studienganges Game Design lag, übernahmen Studierende die Arbeit beim Game Jam. Begleitet wurde die Doppelveranstaltung von einem Videoteam der IU und via Stream konnte das Geschehen online verfolgt werden. Die Aufzeichnung ist immer noch abrufbar. Im Folgenden lassen die Organisator- wie Herausgeber:innen sowohl die Planung sowie Durchführung der Gamepathy #1 Revue passieren als auch die Beitragenden der Fachtagung mit ihren ausgearbeiteten Vorträgen zu Wort kommen. Der Band enthält als Schlusskapitel ebenso einen Rückblick auf den Game Jam aus der Sicht der studentischen Organisator:innen.
Gaming History – Potentiale der Spielgeschichte für innovative Spielentwicklung

Die Geschichte der Videospiele reicht bis in das Jahr 1950 zurück. Damals stellte der Kanadier Josef Kates auf der Canadian National Exhibition den vier Meter hohen Computer „Bertie, the Brain“ aus, gegen den die Ausstellungsbesucher eine Version von Tic-Tac-Toe spielen konnten. Seitdem haben sich die technischen Möglichkeiten, die Hardware, die Spielmechaniken, das Game Play und die Möglichkeiten der audiovisuellen Darstellung enorm weiterentwickelt. Viele gute und schlechte Games wurden entwickelt, verworfen oder veröffentlicht. In diesem Artikel analysieren wir die Spielelemente der Classic Games und ihre Limitierungen und untersuchen, wie diese das Spielerlebnis der Spieler:innen beeinflussten. Wir sehen uns den Zusammenhang zwischen Einschränkungen und Kreativität an und diskutieren, welche Ansätze wir als Game Designer:innen heute (wieder) für innovative Game-Entwicklung nutzen können.
Gesundheitsbezogene Verhältnisprävention in Deutschland: Ein Elend.

(D) Das deutsche Gesundheitssystem nimmt im internationalen Vergleich seit Jahren nur bei den Ausgaben eine Spitzenposition ein. Bei zahlreichen Parametern öffentlicher Gesundheit hingegen wird Deutschland auch und gerade von Ländern überholt, deren Lebensstandard, gemessen am BIP, niedriger als hierzulande ist. Gesundheit ist auch und gerade in Deutschland im besonderen Maße vom sozioökonomischen Status abhängig. Doch auch insgesamt leben wir, etwa mit Blick auf Alkohol, Tabak, Ernährung, Bewegung und soziale Einbindung, „über unsere Verhältnisse“. Konsequenterweise ist eine soziale Verhältnisprävention überfällig, die die sattsam bekannte Individualisierung auch gesundheitsbezogener Verantwortung flankiert. In einem stärker gewinn- als gesundheitsorientierten System ohne Konnexität aber sichern sich Bund, Länder, Industrien und Leistungsanbieter ihre Einnahmen. Die Krankenkassen hingegen haben ohnmächtig für die Kosten aufzukommen. Dazu wirken sie im Präventionsgesetz zuweilen wie entrechtet; sie sollen dazu Leistungen erbringen, für die ihnen die Kompetenzen fehlen. Wichtige Impulse für mehr Gesundheit bieten internationale Vergleiche und Interdisziplinarität. (EN) In an international comparison, the German healthcare system holds for years only a leading position in terms of expenditure. Nonetheless Germany is overtaken in numerous public health parameters by countries whose standard of living, measured in terms of GDP, is lower than in Germany. Health in Germany is particularly dependent on socio-economic status. Correspondingly we also live ‘beyond our means’ in terms of alcohol, tobacco, nutrition, exercise and social integration. A social prevention is overdue, flanking the well-known individualisation of health-related responsibility. However, in a system that is more profit-orientated than health-orientated and without connexity, the federal government, federal states, industries and service providers seize their income. The health insurance funds, in contrast, are powerless to cover the costs. In addition, the Prevention Act in some degrees makes them feel disenfranchised; they are expected to provide services for which they lack the competences. International comparisons and interdisciplinarity provide important impetus for better health. Leitfaden: Sieben Eckpunkte für Deine KI-Kompetenz

Der vorliegende Leitfaden vermittelt in insgesamt 7 Punkten eine grundsätzliche KI-Kompetenz, mit der KI-Systeme souverän eingesetzt werden können. Der Leitfaden dient dazu, für den Umgang mit generierten Inhalten zu sensibilisieren und zugleich das Auge für mögliche Risiken zu schärfen. Der Leitfaden soll Schüler:innenn, Studierenden und Mitarbeitenden von Bildungseinrichtungen eine Handreichung sein, um ihre eigene KI-Kompetenz zu überprüfen und sie zu erweitern. Zugrunde liegen ihm eine 12-monatige empirische Forschung für die kreative Praxis, eine Medien- und Literaturrecherche, Inputs von Expert:innen sowie die Analyse gängiger Machine-Learning-Software („KI-Tools“) auf dem Markt. Die Recherche fand zwischen November 2022 und November 2023 statt und ist der erste Schritt im Forschungsprojekt „AI-KI-DO – KI-Systeme in der kreativen Praxis & Lehre“.
Mehr Qualität bei der Qualitätssicherung: Kriterien für eine wissenschaftlich fundierte Lehrveranstaltungsevaluation durch Studierende

Lehrveranstaltungsevaluationen durch Studierende sind ein verbreitetes Mittel zur Sicherung von Hoch- schulqualität. Die Beobachtung an Hochschulen legt nahe, dass hier nicht immer theoretische und metho- dische Ansprüche an eine wissenschaftliche Befragung oder an Rahmenbedingungen, Modellierungen von Hochschullehre oder ganz konkret den Erfordernissen eines adäquaten Umgangs mit Lehrenden ent- sprochen wird. Auf der Grundlage der Erfahrungen an verschiedenen Hochschulen als Lehrende und Gut- achterin in Akkreditierungsverfahren fasst der Beitrag aus einer bildungswissenschaftlichen Perspektive 10 Empfehlungen für die Konzeption von Lehrveranstaltungsevaluationen durch Studierende zusammen. Course evaluations by students are a common means of ensuring the quality of higher education. Obser- vations at universities of applied sciences suggest that theoretical and methodological demands on sci- entific questioning or on framework conditions, modeling of university teaching or quite concretely the requirements of an adequate handling of teachers are not always met here. Based on the experiences at different universities as a teacher and evaluator in accreditation procedures, the article summarizes 10 recommendations for the conception of course evaluations by students from an educational science per- spective.

Phänomen Fintech: Sichtweisen, Gründe für die Existenz, Chancen und Risiko sowie Ideen für zukünftige Forschung

The years following the 2008 financial crisis have been characterized by the emergence of new financial service providers, so-called fintech. The term is defined and understood differently in the literature. There is an agreement that fintech is composed of the words "financial" and "technology". Regarding the different views and definitions, there is a great heterogeneity in the literature and this working paper tries to systematize them. Furthermore, different justifications for its existence are examined and a proposal for categorization is made. Argumentatively, various opportunities and risks are highlighted that arise in connection with Fintech. Finally, various ideas and starting points for further research are derived from the arguments listed.
PROTOCOL EGUBE: Exploring Parental Barriers and Experiences in Accessing Child Therapy Services in Germany: A Mixed‐Methods Protocol

Early and adequate speech and occupational therapy are essential for supporting children’s development and reducing linguistic, academic, and social challenges. However, navigating the German healthcare system to secure these services often poses significant barriers for parents, especially in outpatient settings. This study’s primary aim is to identify key barriers and facilitators influencing parental engagement with the healthcare system. Using a mixed‐methods approach, the study integrates data from a published pilot project, an online survey, and semi‐structured interviews with parents of children receiving or having received therapy within the last two years. Quantitative data are analyzed via descriptive statistics and qualitative data by means of content analysis to capture both overall trends and in‐depth perspectives. The role of health literacy and interprofessional collaboration in shaping access to care is also examined. Preliminary insights from the pilot study indicate notable disparities in healthcare access. Findings are expected to highlight specific challenges parents face, including systemic inefficiencies and limited awareness of available resources. Anticipated recommendations include policy changes, practitioner guidelines, improvements in care settings, regulations to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of targeted informational materials for various parent groups. By emphasizing family‐centered care and health literacy–sensitive interventions, the study aims to inform healthcare policies and practices that address these disparities, thereby contributing to global strategies for reducing healthcare inequalities and enhancing therapeutic outcomes for children with developmental needs.

In this paper, we discuss the key question whether constraints bring forth creativity focussing upon the socio-cultural and technological framework of Retro Gaming.
