Die unterschätzte Macht der Schrift: Untersuchung des Einflusses von Schriftarten auf Anzeigenwahrnehmung, Markeneinstellung und Kaufverhalten
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2025-02-01) Vogel, Henrik; Schmitt, Sophie
Product brands are facing the increasing challenge of differentiating themselves from the competition through authentic and inspiring advertisements. Therefore, the choice of the right typeface as a design element for advertisement texts may play a crucial role in consumer behavior. Although researchers agree that typefaces generally affect people’s perception, existing research in this specific field is still limited. Based on a survey among German consumers, this study investigates whether two different fonts of an advertisement text (machine-written typeface vs. hand-written typeface) will have an impact on relevant consuming aspects, like advertisement (ad) perception, brand attitude, purchase intention and willing-ness to pay. The results indicate a stronger effect on these aspects for a hand-written advertisement text compared to the machine written version. According to that, implications for marketing professionals are derived from the results. The study contributes to existing advertising research and shows the power of typefaces as often underestimated success features of advertisements.

What Makes Us Click 'Play'? An Empirical Analysis of Content-related Success Factors for Streaming Service Adoption in Germany
(IU International University of Applied Sciences, 2026-03-13) Vogel, Henrik; Weidenbeck, Simon
Faced with intense competition in the video-on-demand (VoD) market, providers are under increasing pressure to understand the determinants of user acceptance to justify significant investments in content and infrastructure. Based on the stimulus-organism response (S-O-R) model, this study examines the influence of specific content-related characteristics on consumers' intention to use VoD services. The conceptual model was empirically validated using data from a quantitative online survey of German consumers (n = 200). The results reveal that the intention to use is massively driven by perceived content value. Specifically, content quality and platform design emerged as significant antecedents of content value, whereas content variety showed no significant impact, suggesting a shift in user preference from quantity to relevance. The paper concludes by deriving actionable managerial implications for VoD providers as well as recommendations for future research in digital service adoption.

(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-03-13) Raschke, Jennifer; Schubart, Constantin
As the global energy transition accelerates, the renewable energy sector has emerged as a showplace for geopolitical competition. Amid intensifying geopolitical uncertainty, e.g. the trade frictions between the EU and China, European firms face the challenge of balancing cost efficiency with strategic sovereignty. This thesis therefore investigates how current trade tensions between the EU and China impact the supply chain strategies of German companies in the photovoltaics, wind, and battery sectors. Methodologically, the study combines a qualitative literature analysis with four semi-structured expert interviews with representatives from academia and policy think tanks. Based on a deductive-inductive coding approach, it identifies seven core risk categories and ten strategic response patterns. The findings reveal that the primary threat lies not in potential tariff or non-tariff trade barriers, but in a deep-seated, asymmetric dependence on China for critical raw materials and technological components. Consequently, while a full decoupling is deemed impractical, the research advocates for a robust de-risking framework centered on diversification of sourcing and production locations, nearshoring and friend-shoring, strategic partnerships with third countries, investments in technological innovation and circular economy approaches, complementary inventory strategies, and selective engagement with China. Ultimately, these strategies represent a shift toward more resilient governance structures, providing a roadmap for policymakers and executives to secure Europe’s energy infrastructure within an era of systemic rivalry.

The influences of attitude toward responsible fashion consumption and environmental concern on Gen Z’s CSR-driven fashion brand choice intention: Empirical evidence from Germany
(IU International University of Applied Sciences, 2023-11-01) Vogel, Henrik
The fashion industry is considered one of the most relevant industries worldwide. At the same time, however, it is repeatedly accused of irresponsible behavior toward the environment and society. For fashion brands who identify Generation Z as an attractive customer target group, the increasing consumer sensitivity for environmental protection and corporate social responsibility (CSR) could offer promising potential for differentiation. Although this assumption is frequently cited, there has been surprisingly little research to date. In a quantitative-empirical study among n = 157 members of Generation Z in Germany, the impact, a) attitude toward responsible fashion consumption and b) environmental concern were analyzed. The results show that both, attitudes towards responsible fashion consumption and environmental concern have a positive effect on the intention to buy clothes from CSR-driven fashion brands. Furthermore, environmental concern has a reinforcing effect on the attitude-intention relationship. Recommendations for managerial practice and ideas for possible future research are derived from the results. The work is intended to contribute to a deeper understanding of the responsible fashion consumption behavior of Generation Z in Germany.

(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-03-11) Dulgeridis, Marcel; Kahl, Axel
Financial wellbeing refers to managing money confidently, achieving personal goals, and buffering financial risks. Representative evidence for Germany indicates substantial strain: 52% experience financial worries at least weekly, 27% report lacking an overview of their finances, and the national financial wellbeing score is 53 (OECD mid-range). At the same time, societal indicators point to widespread caution and low baseline trust, with only 24.59% endorsing general trust in others and 74.38% reporting concern about fraud. This discussion paper argues that trust is a prerequisite for scaling integrated financial wellbeing solutions beyond niche adoption. The macro perspective is complemented by microlevel evidence from an acceptance study of personality-based digital financial advice: in an extended UTAUT model (n=100; ages 18–29), perceived functional value, trust, and social influence strongly predict behavioral intention (R²=.63), while privacy concerns are non-significant at the intention level. Based on this combined lens, the paper derives trust-by-design principles as well as governance and measurement requirements to make integrated, digital wellbeing offerings scalable and credible.

Zwischen Kreativität und Recht: Herausforderungen des Urheberrechts bei KI-generierten Bildern
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-03-09) Krausser, Vanessa; Perst, Florian; Schubart, Constantin; Veichtlbauer, Maximilian
Artificial intelligence (AI) has long since arrived in the world of work, including in the field of media design. This work focusses on AI-generated images and examines copyright challenges in this context. It becomes clear that not only the generated images should be considered, but that AI training data and user input also play a significant role. The aim of the work is to provide an overview of the laws and regulations currently in force in Germany. The empirical study carried out confirms that most employees in the field of media design use AI image generators, but at the same time also reveals uncertainties regarding the legal situation in this subject area. Recom- mendations for dealing with AI-generated images are therefore formulated on the basis of the analysis of applicable laws and other regulations. In addition, various approaches to solving the copyright problems associated with the use of AI-generated works are discussed. To summarise, it can be said that the current copyright law can only be applied to modern technologies to a limited extent.

The present article examines the central importance of ethics in (childhood) pedagogy and demonstrates that pedagogical action is always value-based—both in defining educational goals and in shaping pedagogical relationships. Drawing on classical ethical positions (including Aristotle, Kant) as well as modern approaches to professional and care ethics (including Prengel, Kesselring, Textor), it explains how values such as dignity, justice, care, autonomy, and recognition shape professional practice in early education. The degree to which ethical questions are embedded in practice and professional trainings is discussed as well. In view of frequent value conflicts in everyday professional life, the article emphasizes the need for structured ethical reflection processes. Ethical case discussions are presented as a methodological tool which helps teams systematically analyze dilemma situations, develop courses of action, and make well- founded decisions. A newly developed and tested guideline for ethical case discussions in childhood education teams is presented. It structures this process—from case description through value analysis to decision-making, implementation, and evaluation. Finally, the article argues that ethical reflection competence is a prerequisite for professional pedagogical practice. At the same time, lack of time and insufficient awareness of the importance of ethical reflection hinder its implementation. Greater academicization and professionalization of childhood education fields could, in the long term, contribute to establishing ethically grounded practice.

The Potential of Highly Sensitive Persons in Leadership Roles: Strengths, Challenges, and Implications for Organizational Behavior and Leadership Practice
(IU International University of Applied Sciences, 2026-03-06) Schmidt, Leonie Sophie; Martensen, Malte
Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) describes individual differences in how strongly people respond to sensory and emotional information in their environment. Individuals high in SPS are often referred to as Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) and tend to be more susceptible to both supportive and unsupportive environments. SPS is associated with greater depth of processing, emotional reactivity, sensitivity to subtle stimuli, and susceptibility to overstimulation. To examine how this trait relates to leadership, this study explored the experiences of seven HSPs through qualitative semi-structured interviews and interpreted the data with reflexive thematic analysis. Three themes were constructed: (1) SPS as a leadership resource, (2) navigating misaligned leadership norms, and (3) experience, understanding, and regulating SPS in leadership. The findings provide insights into how HSPs perceive and manage sensitivity in leadership roles and suggest that SPS may function as a leadership resource when supported by favorable environmental conditions, self-acceptance, and effective coping strategies. This research contributes to the emerging literature on SPS in leadership and highlights the need for greater awareness and organizational support for highly sensitive leaders.

As part of a seminar on social history, philosophy, and ethics, dual students of Social Work and Early Childhood Education (IU Ulm, WS 24/25) explored the foundations of professional ethics. The seminar began by examining observed differences between students’ own ethical orientations in practice and the emphasis of relevant position papers, such as the RECKAHNER REFLECTIONS and the BERLIN DECLARATION of the DBSH. To capture the professional ethical frameworks of experienced practitioners, students distributed an open-ended questionnaire on ethical questions and routine practices at their field placements. A total of 36 completed questionnaires were returned from early childhood education and social work settings. Through thematic analysis, key values, their implementation in practice, and potential discrepancies be- tween guiding principles and everyday routines were identified. The findings indicate both widely shared ethical orientations (e.g., respect, empathy, self-determination) and differences in ethical priorities depending on the field of practice. The survey results were further discussed in the seminar and concluded with an Open Space session aimed at fostering professional ethical practice.

Zwischen Realität und Fantasiewelt: Die psychologischen Wirkungen immersiver Freizeitparkgestaltung auf Konsumentscheidungen
(IU Discussion Papers, 2026-02-21) Schümann, Jakob; Weege, Maria
Amusement parks are more popular than ever in Germany, transporting their guests into artificial worlds that tell their own stories. Theming and storytelling are an integral part of the holistic experience in many parks and inevitably have an effect on visitors. Nevertheless, there is a lack of scientific understanding of the psychological effects triggered by immersive amusement park design and how it influences consumer behavior. This work therefore aims to explore the psychological effects of immersive amusement park design and its influence on the choice of the amusement park visited. To this end, 115 people who had visited at least one amusement park in the past three years were asked about their subjective feelings during their visit in an online survey. The research revealed that aesthetic amusement park design triggers positive emotions, which in turn appear to promote customer loyalty. The immersion experienced during the visit promotes flow states, can satisfy social needs and the need to escape from everyday life, and is a relevant decision-making criterion when choosing an amusement park. These findings can help amusement parks make strategic investment decisions and form the basis for further research in this field.

Die Psychologie der Karriereentwicklung: Wie beeinflussen psychologische Konstrukte beruflichen Erfolg und Misserfolg?
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-02-20) Schubart, Constantin; Dulgeridis, Marcel; Meyer, Anne
In a changing world of work, career success is no longer determined solely by objective criteria such as salary or promotion, but increasingly by subjective evaluations such as job satisfaction, personal goal attainment, and self-fulfillment. Against this background, the concept of subjective career success and failure has gained growing attention. The present study examined the influence of selected psychological constructs - self-efficacy, learning goal orientation, self-doubt and maladaptive perfectionism - on the subjective experience of career success or failure among employed individuals. It was hypothesized that self-efficacy and learning goal orientation are positively related to subjective professional success, while self-doubt and maladaptive perfectionism are positively associated with subjective career failure. The results largely confirm these assumptions: Self-efficacy showed a significant positive correlation with subjective career success, while both self-doubt and maladaptive perfectionism were significant predictors of subjective career failure. No significant correlation was found between learning goal orientation and subjective career success. The findings underline the relevance of psychological constructs for the subjective experience of career success and failure and provide initial indications of potential starting points for promoting occupational self-efficacy as well as for preventive approaches to dealing with self-doubt and maladaptive perfectionism.

Wenn Strategien scheitern: Ursachen, Dynamiken und Wege zur Bewältigung
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-01-21) Domguia Teto, Jean Oscard; Dulgeridis, Marcel; Schubart, Constantin
Despite extensive planning, successful strategy implementation remains one of the biggest challenges for organizations worldwide, a phenomenon known as the implementation gap. This thesis systematically analyses the causes of this discrepancy between strategy formulation and realization, ranging from insufficient communication and inadequate resource allocation to organizational resistance to change. Based on a comprehensive literature review of established theories and methods from the fields of Strategic Management, Organizational Development, and Change Management, key success factors for strategy implementation are identified. The core of this work is the development of the “Adaptive Alignment & Execution” (AAX) Framework. This integrative framework combines proven principles and tools to enable a holistic and dynamic approach to strategy implementation. It addresses the need for strategic clarity, dynamic alignment, agile execution, and continuous learning. The framework is supplemented by a practical checklist designed to help organizations proactively address the identified causes of the implementation gap and promote the successful implementation of their strategies.

Social Media als Employer Branding Strategie
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-01-16) Perst, Florian; Schubart, Constantin; Winter, Hannah
The ongoing shortage of skilled workers and the increasing “war for talents” present companies with the challenge of positioning themselves as an attractive employer in order to attract qualified talent. External employer branding activities in social media are increasingly important, particularly with regard to addressing young target groups. The aim of this study is to investigate which external employer branding measures on Instagram and TikTok influence the perception of Generation Y and Z with regard to the attractiveness of a company as an employer. The study is based on a quantitative research design using an online survey as a research instrument. The results of the data analysis indicate that there are differences between Generations Y and Z in terms of content and preferred formats. Generation Y prefers an authentic and informative approach via Instagram that focuses on communicating symbolic attributes. Generation Z, on the other hand, values authentic and humorous insights and the experiential presentation of the employer through instrumental attributes, preferably via Instagram and additionally via TikTok. The implementation of specific activities can have a positive influence on the application intentions of both generations. The findings underline the relevance of a generation-specific approach in order to position oneself as an attractive employer brand on the labor market in the long term.

The Role of Value Alignment in Shaping Employee Engagement Across Generations
(IU International University of Applied Sciences, 2026-01-16) Schubart, Constantin; Meyer, Svenja
This study examined the relationship between employees’ personal work values, their alignment with organizational values, and their effects on employee engagement and turnover intention, with a focus on generational differences. Drawing on the Person-Environment Fit framework, the Job Demands-Resources model, and Self-Determination Theory, the study explored whether value alignment predicts engagement and turnover intention, and whether it mediates the relationship between the two. Data was collected via an online survey from 202 participants across various organizational contexts. Measures included the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9), the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6), and an adapted version of the Work Values Survey (WVS). Multiple linear regression and MANOVA were used for hypothesis testing. Results showed that engagement significantly predicted reduced turnover intention, confirming prior research. However, value alignment did not significantly predict engagement or turnover intention, nor did it mediate the relationship between them. Among work values, altruism, prestige, and pay were significantly associated with engagement. No significant generational differences in work values were found, likely due to sample imbalances. The findings suggest that specific work values may influence engagement more than general alignment and highlight the need for refined measurement approaches. Implications for retention strategies, as well as directions for future research on multilevel value alignment and generational diversity, are discussed.

Kaufentscheidungen im digitalen Zeitalter: Die Rolle von User Generated Content und Künstlicher Intelligenz entlang der Customer Journey
(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2026-01-13) Perst, Florian
The digitalized communication landscape has revolutionized consumer purchasing behavior, with User Generated Content (UGC) playing a central role. UGC significantly influences the customer journey, partic-ularly in the phases of awareness, consideration, and purchase. The use of AI in UGC is viewed as particu-larly critical, as consumers may perceive artificially generated content as inauthentic or unreliable, thereby intensifying the so-called "uncanny valley" effect. Companies must understand the dynamics of UGC and respond to the increasing presence of AI-generated content in order to foster trust and purchase intention. This study explores the importance of authenticity in UGC and the challenges of dealing with AI-generated content in the context of digital consumer behavior.

Sustainability Controlling – Who will be in charge?
(IU International University of Applied Sciences, 2026-01-02) Schulke, Arne
Sustainability Management refers to the integration of environmental and social objectives into corporate management systems. It extends traditional management to encompass CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ESG aspects (Environment, Social, Governance) to plan, steer and control overall business success more holistically. It constitutes an area of growing research focus both in the Germanic community as well as globally. With regards to Controlling, two apparently conflicting findings in literature are that 1) Sustainability Controlling is a crucial way to support this growing trend, and yet, 2) Controlling organizations play a subordinate role in overall Sustainability Management efforts. The discussion paper draws on German and international literature to present evidence on the status quo of Sustainability Controlling. Based on this, a framework for the likely development of the organizational responsibility for Sustainability Controlling within organizations is laid out, with a focus on the information provision function of Controlling.

(IU Internationale Hochschule, 2025-12-17) Herstein, Alina; Barth, Martin; IU Internationale Hochschule
Purpose: Geopolitical uncertainties, technological developments, and structural upheavals are increasing the pressure on financial institutions to adapt. At the same time, regulatory complexity is constantly increasing, pushing traditional organizational structures and working methods to their limits. This article examines how agile principles can be used in specific compliance areas within financial institutions to manage regulatory requirements efficiently and resiliently. Methodology: The analysis is based on guided expert interviews with specialists and executives from the financial sector. The article focuses on two exemplary compliance functions to illustrate the framework conditions and mechanisms of agile working methods in a regulated environment. Findings: The analysis shows that regulation and agility can reinforce each other when appropriately designed. Transparency, clear responsibilities, and iterative and incremental approaches proved to be key success factors. Obstacles arose primarily from silo structures, hierarchical decision-making processes, limited resources, and a low willingness to change. In addition, the importance of cultural factors, in particular open communication, trust, and credible leadership, was emphasized. The results are illustrated using two compliance areas as examples to highlight different characteristics and challenges in the interplay between regulation and agility. Practical implications: Based on the results, a step-by-step approach using clearly defined pilot areas and the introduction of lightweight agile approaches such as Kanban or Scrum-light is recommended. In addition, the targeted development of lean portfolio management can effectively support strategic control and the integration of agile elements into existing line structures. Value: The article provides practical insights into the agile transformation of compliance units and uses empirical evidence to highlight the opportunities and limitations of agile approaches in a highly regulated environment, both in the financial sector and in the field of compliance. KEYWORDS: Agile transformation; Compliance function; Hybrid organizational model; Financial sector regulation. JEL CLASSIFICATION: D23 - Organizational Behavior; Transaction Costs; Property Rights K22 - Business and Securities Law L22 - Firm Organization and Market Structure
